Good injury news should confirm place for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain vs West Ham

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain earned himself a first-XI place against West Ham with his performance for Liverpool on Wednesday. Jurgen Klopp confirmed positive injury news on that front.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain had a fine game against Atletico Madrid. It was his first major start for some time and the 28-year-old made sure to deliver.

Now, he didn’t finish with any goals or assists. Nor did Oxlade-Chamberlain really click with his final ball. But his overall game showed exactly what Liverpool can get from him.

Oxlade-Chamberlain completed five out of five dribbles, constantly looking to drive forward with the ball. He also completed three out of three tackles as Liverpool controlled the midfield.

Add in his consistent passing and the fact Atletico failed to tackle him and it’s clear Oxlade-Chamberlain delivered. He was a couple of sharp moments away from a Man of the Match performance.

The only major downside was a potential injury. Oxlade-Chamberlain needed treatment at one stage and left the pitch early, putting his status against West Ham in doubt. Fortunately, Jurgen Klopp delivered some good news there.

Oxlade-Chamberlain to face West Ham?

“Oxlade had a few games, but not too many, so we didn’t want to push him through that game,” said Klopp, per “We have the next one on Sunday, we need all the boys, so that was the reason. He’s fine.”

It certainly sounds as though Oxlade-Chamberlain is in line for a start against West Ham, then. It’s great to hear he didn’t suffer an injury setback regardless, though.

We imagine Fabinho and Jordan Henderson will both start that game in midfield. The only real question is whether Klopp sticks with Oxlade-Chamberlain or brings in Thiago.

There will be some hope that it’s Thiago, of course. We don’t think there’s any real need to rush the Spaniard, though – not with his recent record.

And Oxlade-Chamberlain offered wonderful balance in the midfield three against Atletico. We loved his performance and believe he earned another start.
