Fabio Carvalho is a free transfer opportunity for Liverpool

Fabio Carvalho could be an ideal free transfer opportunity for Liverpool. The 19-year-old appears set to leave Fulham next year.

As per the Athletic, Fabio Carvalho turned down a contract offer with Fulham this week. His current deal expires in June 2022, making his exit feel a little inevitable.

Understandably, Fulham are disappointed. Carvalho has looked like a potential star in his limited minutes this season. At the very least, he’d have been a good player for them – but his decision could also cost them millions.

The 19-year-old started this season on fire, scoring three goals and an assist before the final week of August. Unfortunately, injuries kept Carvalho out of the game for two months.

Now he’s back and looking to pick up where he left off – only now, it appears Carvalho wants to inspire other teams to look at him

Because Carvalho could be a magnificent free transfer – one Liverpool should really look at.

Carvalho is a home-grown teenager thriving in the Championship. While the sample size of his good displays is small, the kid undoubtedly has talent.

And when you look at the eventual fees for such players, it’s hard to see Carvalho as anything but a bargain. Jarrod Bowen and James Maddison, to name just two, went on to command big fees after shining in the Championship.

Thus Liverpool’s reported interest shouldn’t be a big shock. TeamTalk claims the Reds are in pole position to sign the playmaker.

Liverpool may see this is a very cost-effective transfer, then. Carvalho could arrive for a relatively small compensation fee but take up a very interesting place in the squad.

Again, he’s homegrown and could rival the likes of Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott for attacking midfield places. Or there’s potential to develop Carvalho as a False 9 or forward.

If Liverpool see Carvalho as a good development project, there’s a good chance they make a move. He’s a player who could well be worth £20m+ in a year or two – the Reds won’t want to miss out on that.
