Brendan Rodgers was full of praise for Youri Tielemans this week. A listening Liverpool should take note.
We can comfortably say that Brendan Rodgers is a fan of Youri Tielemans. He waxed lyrical about his player this week, labelling him ‘one of Europe’s best midfielders’.
“I think he’s progressing well, he’s doing very well,” said Rodgers, per the Mirror. “He came in January 2019 and he has progressed into one of Europe’s top midfielders.
“He’s only going to get better. An incredible professional. His mindset is to work at the highest level. He’s progressing and that’s what you want to see in your players.
“It will come with even more experience, even more games. He’s one of the best professionals I’ve ever worked with.”
Tielemans is, unquestionably, one of the best midfielders in the Premier League. All of Europe? Time will tell but there are few playing as well as he is at 24.
And for us, this should all be music to Liverpool’s ears.
Rodgers full of praise for Tielemans
Liverpool supposedly want Tielemans. That’s according to Belgian outlet Voetbal24, anyway.
And why wouldn’t they? With both Jordan Henderson and Thiago – their first-choice midfield pairing – the wrong side of 30, it makes sense to invest in the next big thing.
That may well be Tielemans, who shines in the Premier League but, as Rodgers says, looks ready to kick on to another level. Liverpool couldn’t ask for a more-ready signing.
The only real issue here is price, assuming Tielemans is open to the move. But as we’ve seen with Virgil van Dijk, Liverpool are willing to break a transfer record for an ideal signing.
We think Tielemans is a similar fit. There’s a need, he’s about to move into his prime, and there’s that sense of even more to come.
Listening to Rodgers talk about Tielemans’ professionalism, development and skill – the signing is there, begging to happen. You couldn’t possibly ask for a more glowing review. If Liverpool can spend anything like what Leicester want, the Reds should seriously consider it.
