'We were all surprised': Jurgen Klopp caught off-guard by Naby Keita status

Jurgen Klopp was caught off-guard by the status of Naby Keita for Brighton. The 26-year-old went off injured against Manchester United.

Naby Keita was fantastic at Old Trafford. We think it’s the best game he’s had for Liverpool as the midfielder took full advantage of a struggling home side.

Manchester United couldn’t keep up with Liverpool’s forwards as they dragged defenders all over the place. Keita pounced on that, consistently ghosting into space to pop up in key areas.

He did it for the first goal, of course, bombing forward and receiving Mohamed Salah’s pass to score. Keita then helped create the second as he got forward and played in Trent Alexander-Arnold.

For the third, Keita moved wide right to find absolute freedom. He received the ball, fired it across the box and returned the favour for Salah.

It was a fantastic performance. Really, the kind we’ve been hoping for ever since Keita arrived at the club.

He helped provide the magic that tore United apart and looked like one of Liverpool’s best players. What a shame Keita went off prematurely, then.

My Revenge On Ben Foster

A terrible challenge from Paul Pogba forced the Guinean off. Keita actually left the pitch on a stretcher and things looked bad. It seemed we wouldn’t see him for some time.

Fortunately, it seems he’s completely fine – something that surprised Jurgen Klopp.

Naby Keita injury status

“Naby Keita looks good,” said Klopp, per Liverpoolfc.com. “We were all surprised, but he was obviously lucky so I think he will be ready.”

We thought Klopp might have dropped a hint at this with his team selection against Preston North End on Wednesday evening. The boss was ready to play both Curtis Jones and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, suggesting he had other options for Saturday.

And that appears to be the case. Keita should immediately be ready to play and, for us, must start as Liverpool look to keep his good form going.

Because if we see anything like we did on Sunday, it’ll be time to get very excited about Keita.
