Report: Manchester United wait on three injuries ahead of Liverpool clash

Manchester United wait on three injuries ahead of their meeting with Liverpool, according to reports. They host the Reds on Sunday at Old Trafford.

The Manchester Evening News details three injury worries for Manchester United ahead of Sunday. Liverpool will head to Old Trafford hoping to put the misery back on their old rivals.

One injury for United is certain: Raphael Varane. The World Cup winner is out for at least another few weeks and won’t feature against Liverpool.

But coming out of the 3-2 win over Atalanta, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has three to worry about. All three could return to face Liverpool, though.

United injuries vs Liverpool

The first is Anthony Martial. The Frenchman picked up a problem over the international break and hasn’t played since. He is training, however, which gives the impression he’ll face Liverpool.

The other two are a little unknown.

Fred went off against Atalanta with a hamstring problem. It’s unclear how serious it is, though, and he remains a doubt. The Brazilian started in midweek alongside Scott McTominay – we expect Solskjaer to want the same pairing against the Reds.

The third injury issue is the most interesting – Marcus Rashford. The 23-year-old has only just returned for United after surgery. His first two games back brought two goals, however – one against Leicester City and another against Atalanta.

Rashford’s threat from the left-flank can cause problems and, in fact, has troubled Liverpool in the past. Solskjaer will surely want to start him if he’s fit.

This one is only a dead leg, however. Solskjaer admitted after the game that Rashford will likely be fine to play but you never really know. Liverpool fans should probably expect to see him on Sunday.

So United definitely won’t be at 100% as Varane is out and it just depends on luck for the others. No matter what, though, they’ll be able to put out a very strong XI – we’ll just see if it’s the right XI to trouble Liverpool.
