Liverpool are scouting Aurelien Tchouameni, according to reports. The 21-year-old midfielder is on the verge of being something very special.
This comes from ESPN. They name Liverpool as one of several clubs who recently had scouts watch Aurelien Tchouameni.
Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City and Manchester United all watched AS Monaco with the midfielder in mind. Chelsea, too, have a long-standing interest in Tchouameni and are ‘on good terms’ with his agent.
All six clubs could go on to make a move, then.
And if they do, Monaco would apparently want at least £42m for their star. ESPN mention a high-end of around £50m but honestly, the price will surely exceed that with such clubs involved.
Liverpool scouting Tchouameni
Tchouameni is easily worth that £42m. He’s easily worth £50m, in truth, and that’s why we think the eventual price exceeds that figure.
The midfielder is one of the brightest in Ligue 1 and continues to hit new level after new level. Last season, for instance, was his first full senior season.
He ended it by boasting the third-most tackles per game in Ligue 1 as he won the Young Player of the Year award. Tchouameni’s form earned him a spot in the French National Team this season, with which he just won the Nations League.
The fact that Tchouameni started the final shows just how far he’s come over the last 12 months. He’s a player who continues to grow his reputation at a rapid pace and once again, the youngster is shining this season.
We wrote here about how Liverpool themselves could justify this signing. After all, they’re not in the market for a defensive midfielder like Tchouameni as Fabinho is still very much in his prime.
But there are ways it makes sense and Tchouameni could be worth two or three times his current value in just another 12 months. If Liverpool can make it work, they’re securing a bargain superstar.
