Liverpool will surely watch Ismaila Sarr very closely today. The 23-year-old was once a primary transfer target – and still could be.
Liverpool signed Diogo Jota back in 2020 but that wasn’t necessarily always the plan. Per the Athletic, the Reds also looked at Ismaila Sarr.
Watford wanted £40m for the player, though, just to get discussions going. Wolves, on the other hand, entertained the idea of a £4.5m initial fee – far easier for Liverpool to deal with.
But if Liverpool had their eyes set on Sarr like that, we’re willing to bet the idea hasn’t gone away. In fact, the Athletic’s article mentions how the Senegal international could move on in 2022. The Reds may fancy themselves as a potential destination.
Especially as Liverpool appear to want a right-winger. Recent reports link them with both Raphinha and Federico Chiesa, for instance.
Should Sarr be on that same list, though? Liverpool will get a first-hand understanding later today.
Liverpool to watch Sarr up close
It’s highly likely that Sarr impresses Liverpool today as he’s been playing wonderfully this season. He has four goals in seven starts already, with those goals worth five points to Watford.
His underlying stats are impressive, too. Sarr creates over a chance per game for the Hornets, while his dribbling is eyebrow-raising.
Sarr sits in the top 10 for dribbles per game at 2.6. While he’s not quite at the level of Adama Traore or Allan Saint-Maximin, it’s a fantastic rate.
What really stands out, though, is how hard he is to stop. Only Wilfried Zaha earns more free-kicks than Sarr in the Premier League right now.
What’s also telling is that Sarr is younger than any of the players mentioned. He’s still only 23 and could be someone who explodes onto another level before long.
And if he does, you can safely imagine that Liverpool will be waiting. We know they like Sarr – today they can confirm it up close.
