Potential Liverpool XIs if they complete 2 reported free transfers in 2022

Liverpool are looking at two free transfers for 2022, according to reports. Here are some potential XIs should the Reds complete those deals.

Liverpool are eyeing up free transfers in 2022, it seems. Gazzetta Dello Sport, for instance, believes the Reds want Franck Kessie next summer.

Then there’s Cuatro claiming that Ousmane Dembele is on the shortlist. Both would arrive without a transfer fee and, you’d have to say, improve the squad quite a bit.

But how would Liverpool look with Kessie and Dembele? Let’s throw together a couple of XIs and see what we think.

Both Kessie and Dembele are 24 right now – though, they’d be 25 by the time they joined Liverpool. That means we’re looking at players who could play a decent role for five years.

One of those roles would be as brilliant rotation options within Liverpool’s current system. We could see Kessie lineup in a midfield three, for instance, to add extra bit. Dembele offers the luxury of covering both flanks, too, meaning he’s support for either Sadio Mane or Mohamed Salah. A lot like Diogo Jota in that regard.

Henderson – Kessie
Salah – Firmino – Dembele

Every Premier League Team's BEST Signing In The Last 7 Years

That’s an XI that wins the vast majority of Premier League games. Even without being a first-choice XI – Thiago, Mane, Jota, Joe Gomez, Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott are all on the bench – they’d trouble anyone.

It’s easy to see how that midfield causes real problems for certain sides. There’s a ton of energy and pressing there, with all three midfielders being very capable defenders.

And up top you’ve simply rotate Mane out of the team and thrown in Dembele – but you could easily do the same with Salah or Firmino. It’s simply a demonstration of wonderful squad depth.

But what about a different system entirely?

Alexander-Arnold – Matip – Van Dijk – Robertson
Fabinho – Kessie
Dembele – Salah – Firmino – Mane

We’ve left out Jota here but again, you can swap him in for any of the front four. What this team has, though, is a midfield that looks rock-solid and allows for a devastating front-four.

Fabinho is world-class holding midfielder, while Kessie can bulldoze around the pitch alongside him – it’s a defensive shield that offers a bit of everything.

And so this goes to show what Liverpool could have here. A lightning front-four with fantastic support from the bench with a midfield that can cover all that firepower.

We don’t know for sure how likely these two deals are. If Liverpool got both over the line for free, though, they’d have an incredibly deep and versatile squad.

It’s got to be worth a try, right?
