Report: Agent approaches Liverpool with Ousmane Dembele deal

An agent has approached Liverpool over Ousmane Dembele, according to reports. The Frenchman is coming to the end of his contract.

This comes from Cuatro in Spain. They claim that Ousmane Dembele looks likely to leave Barcelona and his agent is working to find a move away.

In fact, said agent has talked to Liverpool over a deal. He hopes to secure Dembele a large contract as a free agent and knows the Reds are fans.

More specifically, he knows Jurgen Klopp is a fan. The Liverpool boss would love to have Dembele at Anfield, apparently, and it makes the club a prime destination for the Frenchman.

It’s worth adding that Sport also have Liverpool down as interested. The Reds are apparently just ‘on the lookout’ for a potential deal, rather than actually involved in discussions.

Still, if all lines up, Liverpool could push to sign Dembele on a free transfer in 2022.

This is one of the more interesting moves available to Liverpool – and it’s certainly available. Signing Dembele for free is a genuine option for clubs as long as he doesn’t renew his Barcelona contract.

The Catalonians financial issues make that difficult, too. We’re sure they’d love to keep Dembele but is he the kind of risk they can really afford right now?

The Frenchman is an unbelievable talent at his best and he’s still only 24. Injuries just always appear to be around the corner, unfortunately, as do periods of poor form.

It is worth mentioning that Dembele played over 40 games last season, though. He also managed over 40 in the 18/19 campaign – it was just followed with a season of nine appearances.

But maybe he’s turned a corner? It’s a huge risk to take as you could end up with a barely-fit player on a big contract. At the end of the day, though, we’re talking about a free transfer.

Perhaps the lack of a transfer fee can tempt Liverpool into a gamble here.
