Kaide Gordon signed his first professional contract on Friday. Here are three things we want to see from the 17-year-old going forward.
Starring role
Call it a first goal, first assist – whatever it takes – we just want to see Gordon stamp his authority on a Liverpool game this season. The best chance of that comes later this month against Preston North End, of course.
The teenager got his debut against Norwich City and while it was impressive, Gordon didn’t really threaten all that much. It was more about a solid all-around performance rather than special moments.
So we want to see him follow in the footsteps of Curtis Jones on this one. Jones got his moment against Everton with a sensational winner at Anfield. Gordon doesn’t have to go quite that spectacular but we’d like to see him showcase some magic in a game this season.
Premier League debut
This is perhaps one for later in the season but we’d like to think Gordon can force his way onto the pitch in the Premier League. With Xherdan Shaqiri gone – and Harvey Elliott injured – the chance is there to get a game on the right-wing.
Even just for a few minutes. That has to be the ultimate goal this season and one we do think is attainable. He’ll need to earn it, of course.
Dominate the Under 23s
Kaide Gordon has just turned 17 – there’s no real rush here as he’s only now signed a professional contract. We’d like to see him really stamp his authority on Under 23 level, then.

The youngster took some time to get going with the Under 18s last season but ended up being far too good by the season’s end. We’re hoping for a similar story with the Under 23s.
If Gordon can keep developing rapidly, there’s no reason why he can’t outgrow his current environment. That’ll force Liverpool into a big decision in 2022 – first-team squad or loan away?
