Liverpool are now second-favourites for Dusan Vlahovic, according to reports. The Reds could make a move for the Serbian striker.
This comes from Tuttosport [pg.10, Friday, October 8th]. The Italian outlet went through the top attacking targets for 2022 and which clubs stand to sign the players.
Liverpool are there twice. Firstly, as a potential destination for Erling Haaland. Paris Saint-Germain are favourites, apparently, with Real Madrid and Liverpool sharing a 25% chance each.
But we’ll take that one with a pinch of salt. An Italian outlet reporting on French, Spanish and English clubs signing a Norwegian player from a German club – we’re not sure where the link is there.
Instead, we’re more interested in Tuttosport believing that Liverpool are second-favourites for Dusan Vlahovic. Vlahovic is at Fiorentina, of course, and set to leave in 2022.
We can say that with some certainty, too. Fiorentina released a statement this week confirming that the 21-year-old has rejected multiple contract offers. They’ll almost certainly have to sell him next summer as a result.
They believe only Juventus stand a better chance of signing Vlahovic. The percentages they give are almost certainly arbitrary numbers but they have the Old Lady at around a 40% chance next summer.
Liverpool, on the other hand, boast a 20% chance and are slightly ahead of Manchester City in the race.
So could Liverpool actually get him?
We’re still not entirely sold on this one. Mainly because Vlahovic has only been a great player for around 10 months and Fiorentina would probably want a huge fee.
It’s not entirely clear if Liverpool want an out-and-out striker, either. We think they’d benefit from one but recent success has come with Roberto Firmino playing a False 9 role.
Signing Vlahovic would mean changing from that. It’s not beyond any realm of possibility but it’s something to consider.
So we’re hardly celebrating this signing yet. It’s very possible as Vlahovic looks pretty special but we wouldn’t hold your breath. Let’s see how this one plays out.
