Caoimhin Kelleher is in line for an appearance against Watford, according to reports. Alisson Becker will likely miss the game.
This comes from the Liverpool Echo. They say that Caoimhin Kelleher is currently on standby for Liverpool as it appears Alisson Becker won’t face Watford.
The Reds’ no.1 will join up with Brazil over the international break and that’s created a problem. Brazil’s final game comes on October 15th, while Liverpool’s first game back is on the 16th.
The club hoped to move the game back to late in the evening – current kick-off time is 12:30 – but no to avail. Watford weren’t willing to do so, citing the lack of notice meant fans had already made travel plans.
Liverpool also tried to convince Brazil into releasing both Alisson and Fabinho early. Globo report, however, that they’ll face rejection there.
Thus Alisson and Fabinho will almost certainly be missing for the trip to Vicarage Road. Kelleher, then, should step in for his second appearance of the season.
Kelleher to face Watford
You can’t really blame Watford for this one. Alisson and Fabinho being out undoubtedly benefits them – you’d expect Liverpool to do the same thing.
There is still a small chance that the goalkeeper players, though. His fitness levels should be higher than Fabinho’s on account of being a goalkeeper. In fact, he might not even face Uruguay on the 15th as Ederson is currently ahead of him for Brazil.
So if he gets back to the UK on time, perhaps Alisson plays. But we’ll also completely back Kelleher to do the job.
The Irishman is a very impressive goalkeeper in his own right and we think he’d probably start for a lot of Premier League sides. Kelleher has always looked good when he’s played – it’s certainly not the end of the world if he starts this one.
