Liverpool drew 2-2 with Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday in a breathless game. Here are who we have down as Liverpool’s three best players from the clash.
Alisson Becker
Alisson made one glaring error in the first half as he inexplicably passed the ball straight to City about 30 yards from goal. It was a pretty terrible mistake, really.
But that didn’t undo the work he did just to keep Liverpool in this. He twice stopped Phil Foden with great saves, made some great claims and his distribution was solid other than that one mishap.
It was a demonstration of why Alisson might be the best in the world right now.
Joel Matip
Not the easiest game for the centre-back as he had to try and help James Milner through the game on the right-hand side. It wasn’t a perfect performance, either, as he had some sloppy passes and a very unfortunate deflection on City’s second.
But three tackles and three interceptions in a game like this? Brilliant from the Cameroonian. Matip stepped up defensively when Liverpool were under incredible pressure.

The were first-half moments where Liverpool really struggled to handle City. Matip, though, popped up with some vital actions to stop them.
Mohamed Salah
The clear, far and away Man of the Match and Liverpool don’t draw this 2-2- with City if not for their no.11. Salah came into this one with expectation on him and delivered above and beyond.
His assist for Sadio Mane’s goal was spectacular. He just caused chaos, leaving defenders for dead and playing an inch-perfect pass.
We’re not even sure how to describe his goal, though. And unbelievable moment against some of the world’s best defenders in a massive game. He is quite possibly the best player on the planet right now – the Egyptian certainly gets our vote.
