Franck Kessie has some intriguing wage demands, according to reports. The AC Milan midfielder is after a new contract as his current deal expires in 2022.
This comes from Gazzetta Dello Sport. They claim Franck Kessie rejected a new offer from AC Milan for a long-term contract.
Milan offered around £110k-a-week to secure Kessie but he’s holding out for at least £130k. There’s a good reason for that, too – interest in him is high.
Liverpool, Everton, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur all have eyes on the situation. All will fancy their chances of swaying his interest and could potentially meet those demands.
Kessie’s current deal expires in 2022, meaning he’s an obvious free-agent target next summer. All four clubs can formally make an offer in January.
Franck Kessie wage demands look intriguing
If this is true, we think Liverpool should jump on this. Kessie is a very talented player and £130k-a-week seems pretty doable without a transfer fee.
In fact, it seems quite cheap for a player as good as Kessie. He’s an all-action midfielder who could add some serious bite to Liverpool’s midfield. We’ve argued before that they’re currently lacking a player like him.
A five-year contract on £130k would give you Kessie’s best years, too. He’d be 30 by the time it ended – meaning there’s room for an extension in a few seasons.
But even just as it is, five years without a transfer fee to add a talented and unique midfielder to your squad? We’d be quite surprised if Liverpool passed this one up.
Kessie is the type of midfielder Liverpool could use this Sunday, for instance. Someone willing to get about the pitch and win the ball back a good few times before recycling possession.
We’d back them to comfortably push aside the other Premier League clubs involved, too. This is the kind of signing that can really boost the squad and without taking a chunk out of the budget.
Get it done, we say.
