Liverpool absolutely battered Porto this week. We do every time they have us over. The Reds were in fine fettle whilst the hosts were incredibly off the pace. After the game Porto boss Sergio Conceicao said his youth team could’ve done better against Liverpool.
Porto 1-5 Liverpool
The Estadio do Dragao has proven a happy hunting ground for Liverpool in recent years.
We’ve played there three times now since the 2017/18 season and those three games have ended in an aggregate score of 14-2. Phenomenal.
This latest instalment of the Liverpool Mauling Porto show saw the front three in typically devastating form.
Mo Salah bagged a brace, Sadio Mane got one and Roberto Firmino scored twice after coming off the bench.
Curtis Jones was at the centre of everything good from the Reds. The Scouser put in a man of the match performance.
Sergio Conceicao makes Porto youth claim
Tuesday also saw the two clubs’ academy sides face off in the UEFA Youth League.
The earlier game ended 1-1 with the hosts on top for most of the game.
Speaking after watching the senior side get whooped 5-1 in front of their own fans, Sergio Conceicao made an embarrassing admission about his youth side:
“Even with a youth team – who had a game today where they drew with Liverpool – they would certainly do a little better than we did today.”
What RTK has to say
What else can you say?
After a drubbing like that, one which just keeps on happening, what else can you say?
Liverpool are simply Porto’s bogey team. They must hate seeing our name come up in the draw.
Hopefully we can repeat the trick at Anfield this time, we always seem to show them mercy on our own patch.
