Liverpool have started their Champions League campaign in commanding fashion. The Reds have two wins from two in the group stage thanks to two dominant performances. Our veteran set up another goal this week. James Milner has more Champions League assists than Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo since the start of the 2017/18 season.
Porto 1-5 Liverpool
The Estadio do Dragao has become a happy hunting ground for Liverpool.
The Portuguese stadium has hosted the Reds three times since the 2017/18 campaign and on each occasion Jürgen Klopp’s men have romped to victory.
This week the Reds made it 14-2 on aggregate across these three games.
Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino bagged a brace each whilst Sadio Mane also tapped home.
Our man of the match was undoubtedly Curtis Jones with the Scouser putting in an incredibly mature performance.
James Milner Champions League assists
This week saw Mr. Reliable lay on another goal for his teammate.
James Milner has a truly astounding record for laying on goals in the Champions League.
In the 2017/18 season he broke the record for assists in one campaign, notching nine.
Since the start of that campaign he has set up more goals than Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
What RTK has to say
You read that right. James Milner is ahead of Ronaldo and Messi in the Champions League stakes.
He’s an unlikely hero in that regard, considering that he isn’t a regular any more.
However, when he was during the 17/18 campaign he was deployed as a centre midfielder and to devastating effect.
He’s more than warranted further inclusion in the side.
