Liverpool are in need of a striker. Who will come in and when? The past year or so has seen plenty of targets mooted but no move made. This weekend we came up against a potential signing. Liverpool fan Ivan Toney could be an ideal Jürgen Klopp player.
Plan B and succession line
At the minute the Reds are devoid of a plan B in the final third.
We don’t have that target striker to latch onto long balls forward and bring teammates into play. That player who will be a magnet for Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson’s crosses.
In addition the entire traditional front three will be 30-years-old by the start of next season.
As a result it’s time to start looking at a succession plan as we build our next attack.
Liverpool should look at Ivan Toney
Last season Brentford’s talismanic striker netted a superlative 33 goals in the Championship.
The centre forward was pivotal for his side, providing the lethal touch needed to secure promotion.
This season he’s netted twice in six games but he’s still been impressive in other aspects of his play.
At the weekend we saw his ability to win aerial duels and bring teammates into play.
Had his teammates been more clinical then he could well have had a goal to his name.
At 6ft 2in tall he would offer something different to the Reds’ attack, the full backs would be licking their lips.
Robert Lewandowski precedent
Two inches taller than Bayern Munich’s Polish legend we can still compare Ivan Toney and Robert Lewandowski.
This is because they are similar in that they are both natural finishers who are strong enough to hold the ball up and bring teammates into the play.
We saw the wonders Jürgen Klopp worked with Lewandowski. Perhaps we could see the German work the same wonders with Ivan Toney?
We don’t think he’d be against a move, Ivan Toney has supported Liverpool sing he was a kid.
