Pontus Jansson named Virgil van Dijk as strongest defender in the world

This weekend Liverpool didn’t get the result we were hoping for. However, we can take some positives from the display. We saw another superlative display from our talismanic centre back. Speaking after the game Pontus Jansson named Virgil van Dijk as the strongest defender in the world.

Liverpool held by Brentford

This weekend saw the Reds meet their match.

Liverpool journeyed to Brentford well aware that they were in for a tough game.

Thomas Frank has worked wonders with the Bees and this Saturday evening saw perhaps one of the peaks of his reign.

The hosts exploited the Liverpool back post throughout the game with each goal having something to do with overloading that position.

The Reds point was secured thanks to goals from Diogo Jota, Curtis Jones and Mo Salah.

We can’t argue with the result at all, the hosts thoroughly deserved their point.

Pontus Jansson on Virgil van Dijk

The game saw another typically imperious performance from Virgil van Dijk.

The Dutchman was in fine form, commanding the skies with his heading ability and stopping attacks with his anticipation.

After the game Pontus Jansson told Sky Sports Premier League (7:39pm, September 25, 2021):

“We have Ivan and he had a fight against probably the strongest defender in the world (Van Dijk), and I think he made it good.”

What RTK has to say

It is truly remarkable how Virgil has returned to the fold as if he never left.

The Dutchman hasn’t missed a beat. He is still the same old world class defender he always was.

Unfortunately, he didn’t get much help this weekend. Jürgen Klopp will work on tha.t
