Niklas Sule asked his agent for a move to Liverpool in 2019, according to reports. The Bayern Munich defender was looking for a way out of the club.
This comes from Der Spiegel. A court case in Germany right now sees two agents making claims against one another and it’s leading to some interesting details about transfers.
Der Spiegel has their hands on the latest information to drop from the case – WhatsApp messages from players to their agents. One of those players is Niklas Sule, the Bayern Munich centre-back.
Sule moved there for around £21m in 2017 but was looking for a way out under two years later. He didn’t seem too fussed about where to – as long as it was the Premier League.
“Check the offers from England if anyone wants me there,” he allegedly wrote in late 2018. “If someone from the big clubs would take me, let me know.
“Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, but preferably [Manchester United]”.
The agent, Murat Lokurlu responded “Seriously?”, to which Sule confirmed his desire.
“Yeah I’m dead serious,” he said. “Okay Super Murat, would be great if you could get that moving.”
Niklas Sule requested Liverpool move
It’s worth mentioning that Sule doesn’t mention Liverpool again and seems to go off that idea. The other clubs come up in later texts but the Anfield dream appeared to die.
We imagine that’s because Liverpool weren’t particularly interested, really. Sule’s a decent player but the Reds were never going to pay a sizeable fee for him when Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Joe Gomez and Dejan Lovren were all at the club.
So while this one is certainly interesting, it was never going to get off the ground. Of course, Sule didn’t actually get a move anywhere and tore his cruciate ligament around a year later.
Now that he’s back on track, it’ll be interesting to see if his Premier League goal continues. Though, again, Liverpool won’t be the destination.
