'Seen enough': Some Chelsea fans make quick judgement on signing Saul

Some Chelsea fans are already passing judgement on the Saul Niguez signing. The Blues reportedly beat Liverpool to the player.

Wednesday saw Saul Niguez played his second game since signing for Chelsea this summer. Eyes were on him, too, after a difficult start to life in London.

Saul was subbed off at halftime on his debut, with Thomas Tuchel saying “he struggles”. It was quickly apparent that the Spaniard isn’t quite up to speed with his new side, which told us that Liverpool perhaps dodged a small bullet.

After all, the Reds supposedly wanted Saul, too. The Mirror were just one outlet that claimed that, though there was an issue. As Neil Jones told RedmenTV, Saul’s wages were very high – more than Liverpool were prepared to pay.

Liverpool had an offer in place, says AS, but Manchester United drove the price up. Chelsea were willing to top that, the Reds weren’t. Per The Times, those wages were around £6m per year.

That was a blow to us as we’ve long thought Saul would be a solid signing for Liverpool. But finances got in the way once again and off the Chelsea he went.

Chelsea fans regret Saul signing

So Saul made his second appearance for Chelsea in the EFL Cup against Aston Villa. It didn’t go particularly well. Fans took to Twitter after the game to voice their frustrations with the player.

Every Premier League Team's Best Player Now Vs. 7 Years Ago

Well, two games is a fairly ridiculous point on which to judge a player. Chelsea do have very high standards in their midfield but not perform-within-two-games high.

So, quite honestly, we hope they get their way. Saul is a very talented player and one we think Jurgen Klopp could work wonders with – we still believe that.

Yes, he’s struggling to integrate into a new system but we’d back Liverpool to make that work. If Chelsea are ready to give up on the Spaniard in January, the Reds should have another look.
