Liverpool face Preston North End in the Carabao Cup fourth round draw. The Reds’ recent debutants now know their next big challenge.
Liverpool travel to play Preston North End in the Fourth Round of the Carabao Cup. It’ll be a slightly different kind of challenge to the previous round, which saw the Reds overcome Norwich City 3-0 at Carrow Road.
Notably, Liverpool handed debuts to three teenagers in that game. Kaide Gordon and Conor Bradley started the fixture, while Tyler Morton came on at halftime. It’ll be interesting, then, to see what happens in October.
We expect all three players to feature in that game – they certainly earned it against Norwich. Gordon showed a wonderful ability to run with the ball, while Bradley offered a fairly complete game at right-back. Morton then controlled the midfield very well for such an inexperienced player.
Preston, of course, aren’t quite at the level of Norwich. Liverpool, who perhaps weren’t overwhelming favourites at Carrow Road after rotating their side, will expect a big win – no matter who plays.
With that, then, comes far more pressure on the three debutants.
Liverpool get Preston in Carabao Cup draw
All three teenagers proved they can play senior football with their displays against Norwich. They even surprised Jurgen Klopp, who wasn’t expecting them to handle the physicality so well.
Thus it’s time for a step up. Against Preston, the three of them will all need to show they can contribute to the win, rather than merely looking comfortable.
Gordon, in particular, will have to show more aggression than he did vs Norwich. Liverpool will want to see him running with the ball and making things happen, rather than the backseat role he took on Wednesday.
This should be an easier game – providing Preston don’t go full strength. Now it’s time to really see what these youngsters are made of.
