Jurgen Klopp gave an early update ahead of Liverpool’s crunch clash vs FC Porto next week. There will be at least one returning star for the game.

Liverpool are in arguably the toughest UEFA Champions League group. Their fixture against AC Milan proved that – the fourth seed took them to the limit at Anfield.

It’s a group where every game matters, then, and Liverpool can’t afford to rest players in any game. Slip up where you shouldn’t and that could cost you progression.

So with that in mind, Liverpool’s trip to Porto next week is a big one. A win against the third seed would be an enormous step towards progression.

Thus Jurgen Klopp delivered some great news ahead of the game vs Porto – Roberto Firmino will definitely return.

Klopp confirms Firmino return vs Porto

“Bobby trained already for two or three days, so he is back in contention, let me say it like this,” said Klopp, per Liverpoolfc.com. “We used him a little bit as a ‘joker’ [in training].

“But he will be in the normal training and then we have to make a decision if we take him with us or not. Porto, 100 per cent. Brentford [this weekend], we have to see.”

Firmino is a huge part of Liverpool’s gameplan – especially when they want to control a game. We won’t be shocked if Klopp decides to prioritise him for the Champions League, then.

Having him press defences and work the lines is exactly what’s needed as the Reds chase a positive result. Klopp clearly believes there’s a chance he could face Brentford but we’d be very surprised if he started that one.

Maybe he comes off the bench? Maybe Liverpool don’t risk it. We’ll back the team to see off Brentford, Firmino or not.

As for Porto, we couldn’t be happier that the Brazilian will be there.
