Liverpool fans wanted a midfielder signed over the summer. Following Gini Wijnaldum’s departure the Reds were left short of reliability in the middle. The club was linked with a number of players but no move was made. We might have to cross one target off the list soon. Reported Liverpool target Pedri has allegedly decided to sign a new Barcelona contract.
Liverpool wanted Pedri
Back in April exciting reports began to surface.
The Mirror claimed that Liverpool had held talks about signing Pedri.
The Reds were allegedly weighing up a £70m offer for the Spanish wonderkid.
Of course, no such move came to fruition and he went on to star at Euro 2020.
After a match against Sweden he was tipped for greatness by Gary Lineker with the ex-Barcelona forward commenting, “he’s going to be a superstar.”
Pedri set for new Barcelona contract
Technically, the end of the season should see the wonderkid’s deal expire.
However, Barcelona have the option of two further years extension.
Despite these two optional years the Blaugrana are believed to recognise the player’s development and importance.
Mundo Deportivo has claimed that Pedri is in talks with Barcelona over a new contract.
Such a move indicates that the Spaniard has decided he’d rather stay with the La Liga giants than move abroad.
What RTK has to say
Pedri was always a pipe dream for Liverpool.
Growing up in Spain players dream of turning out for Real Madrid or Barcelona.
Would we expect Trent to move to Barcelona now? Of course not.
I suppose we can only hope for Barca’s woes on and off the pitch to worsen to the extent that we can convince Pedri to leave for the good of his career.
