'Let that sink in': Liverpool fans react to Naby Keita injury

Naby Keita went off with an injury against Norwich on Tuesday evening. Liverpool fans can’t quite believe the reason, though.

Liverpool walked away 3-0 winners at Carrow Road. It was fairly routine result against Norwich City, made all the more impressive as the Reds went with an experimental lineup.

It was a mix of youngsters looking to make an impression and squad players hoping to show their value. For instance, the right flank featured two teenagers – Conor Bradley and Kaide Gordon.

The left, though, saw Kostas Tsimikas and Takumi Minamino combine. All four players came away with enhanced reputations, we’d argue.

Midfield was interesting, too. Jurgen Klopp went with Curtis Jones as a holding player, putting Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in front of him.

In truth, it didn’t really work. Jones played excellently but the two more senior players struggled in the game. Unfortunately, the experiment ended at halftime as Keita went off injured.

It wasn’t exactly clear how he picked up the injury at the time but Klopp explained afterwards. Although, it’s still a little unclear.

Naby Keita picks up strange injury

“Klopp says Naby Keita hurt himself ‘kicking the grass’ in the first half, but says they are not too concerned about the injury,” wrote journalist Neil Jones.

It’s a new one, sure. And one that fans couldn’t quite believe when they heard it.

A lot of our hope for Keita this season rests on him staying fit and moving past these injuries that interrupt his momentum. After all, he scored a magnificent goal at the weekend – it would be nice to see him capitalise on that form.

In other words, getting injured by kicking the ground is not what we had in mind. It’s really the opposite of what we had in mind.

Fingers crossed he’s fit for the weekend. We’re not sure what to say otherwise.
