This season Liverpool have started strongly. The Reds are joint top of the league with an identical record to Chelsea. It helps that we’ve got key stars back. One such key star has been going walkabouts. Joel Matip has more touches in the opposition box than Harry Kane this season.
Another Harry Kane transfer saga
This summer was a wild one in the transfer market.
Big money moves were made every week with the two biggest stars of our generation switching clubs.
Lionel Messi did the unthinkable and signed for PSG. Then Cristiano did the unthinkable and rejoined Manchester United.
All the while Harry Kane was begging to get out of Spurs. Nobody could afford him.
He returned to the side late after Euro 2020 and eventually gave up on a move, announcing he wouldn’t be leaving this summer.
Joel Matip stat outshines Harry Kane
We all love a bizarre stat, don’t we?
According to WhoScored, Joel Matip has had more touches in the opposition box than Harry Kane this season.
Astounding. Well, we do know that the Cameroonian likes to go walkabout but this is damning for the Spurs striker who is yet to score in the league this term.
Sure, Joel has played 72 minutes more than the England forward. But, come on. Should that matter?
The centre back has had 11 touches in the opposition box compared to Kane’s 10.
What RTK has to say
Something is going very right for Matip and very wrong for Kane.
Whether or not the Cameroonian will be able to add to his tally in the near future remains to be seen.
Ibrahima Konate impressed on his debut and might have nailed down a first team berth alongside Virgil van Dijk.
