Liverpool fans have stated it defiantly, “the Reds have got no money but we’ll still win the league.” It’s a chant which has become an arrogant war cry within the space of a week. Jan Aage Fjortoft agrees that Liverpool can win the Premier League this season despite not spending big.
Reds have got no money
Over the summer we saw our Premier League rivals spend big.
Chelsea splashed out to bring Romelu Lukaku back to the club having already brought in Kai Havertz, Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner a season earlier.
Manchester City broke the bank to sign Jack Grealish from Aston Villa.
Meanwhile, Manchester United went all out recruiting Jadon Sancho, Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane.
The Reds signed a centre back the day the window opened and they were done thereafter.
Despite the lack of spending Liverpool are still joint top of the league with an identical record to Chelsea.
Jan Aage Fjortoft on Liverpool title challenge
Before the start of the season plenty of pundits had the Reds finishing fourth.
Given the spending of our rivals many journos and fans thought it would be impossible for Jürgen Klopp to keep pace. We have. We’ve set the pace.
Jan Aage Fjortoft has said Liverpool can certainly win the title this term, telling ESPN FC:
“Can Liverpool go all the way? Absolutely, they can win the Premier League, of course.”
What RTK has to say
You just can’t write off Jürgen Klopp and his men.
If we can keep the core group fit then we’ll be right up there come the end of the season.
The Reds’ clean sheet record this season is testament to the challenge we’re set to mount, it could well be between us and Chelsea.
