This week Liverpool are back in domestic cup action. The Reds are going to make a host of changes with chances given to fringe stars and youth players. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain should start against Norwich City. He simply has to take his chance if he wants to get his Anfield career back on track.
Liverpool sign Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
Back in 2017 Liverpool agreed a £35m deal to bring Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to Merseyside from Arsenal.
The Ox’s debut season for the Reds was an impressive one.
He slotted right into the centre of the midfield, a role he excelled in as opposed to when he was used as a winger by Arsenal.
His debut campaign was particularly memorable for his prowess in the Champions League.
The Ox netted a stunner against Manchester City in the quarter finals.
Unfortunately he picked up a serious knee injury against Roma which kept him out for nearly a year.
Injury pile up
Since that injury against Roma the midfielder has never been the same.
Knee injuries have piled up, last term he missed 20 games having picked up a knee issue during pre-season.
This season he’s been limited to just 75 minutes of competitive action.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain v Norwich City
This week Oxlade-Chamberlain should start against Norwich City.
The EFL Cup often sees heavily rotated sides and as such we expect to see The Ox in action.
He can’t afford to not take his chance, no matter which position he’s in – he’s been deployed as a false nine recently.
His debut campaign showed us what he’s capable of but he’s slipped right down the pecking order since.
We need him to show he’s still got it, he needs to play himself into the boss’ first team plans somehow and the domestic cups are a way to do that.
