Liverpool have started the season strongly and we can thank the return of key players for that. Unfortunately, the return of injured stars has left some players out in the cold. Thankfully, Nat Phillips is set to start against Norwich City.
Rise and rise of Nat Phillips
Last season the centre of the Reds’ defence was utterly devastated by injuries.
Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez were ruled out for the season early on.
As a result the boss turned to Nat Phillips just weeks after a move to Swansea City collapsed.
The academy graduate stepped up to the plate and proved to be the saviour of our season.
Excellent performance after excellent performance earned him the nickname ‘the Bolton Baresi’.
Nat Phillips to start v Norwich City
The Reds have signed another centre back in Ibrahima Konate.
Furthermore, Virgil, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip have all returned to full fitness.
Consequently we haven’t seen the Bolton Baresi take to the field yet this term.
James Pearce has reported for The Athletic that Nat Phillips will play against Norwich City in the EFL Cup this week.
What RTK has to say
Phillips thoroughly deserves to be our cup centre back.
The 24-year-old saved us last term and should be playing first team football.
However, no suitable offer came in for him over the summer.
If we want a suitable offer then he needs to be a regular starter in at least one competition.
The EFL Cup will give him a chance to showcase his abilities once again.
