Liverpool continued their strong start to the season with a win over Crystal Palace this weekend. Jürgen Klopp’s side were on top throughout but it was a tight game overall. The boss fielded a much rotated side with both full backs changed. Gary Lineker and Jermaine Jenas were stunned by James Milner v Crystal Palace.
Liverpool 3-0 Crystal Palace
The Reds just can’t stop winning.
Liverpool are top of the league after their win over Crystal Palace with just two points dropped in five games.
It was Sadio Mane who opened the scoring for the hosts.
The Senegal striker was first to the rebound after a smart save from a Mo Salah header.
Thereafter the game was one of fine margins with both sides creating chances.
However, it was Liverpool who took their chances. 20 minutes from the end Mo Salah volleyed home from close range.
Then it was Naby Keita’s turn to volley home, this time from range. An excellent strike.
Lineker and Jenas on James Milner v Crystal Palace
Jürgen Klopp started James Milner at right back against Crystal Palace.
The Yorkshireman stepped in for an ill Trent Alexander-Arnold.
At 35-years-old the veteran proved he’s still got it, keeping Wilfried Zaha at bay.
On Match of the Day he was singled out for praise. Jermaine Jenas referred to his longevity as ‘remarkable’.
The seasoned pro ranked 1st in the game in a number of categories including touches, passes, sprints and distance covered.
Gary Lineker interjected that it ‘defies belief’ that the 35-year-old is still dominating the physical tables in a Premier League game.
What RTK has to say
We keep on saying that we need better cover and that Milly is getting on a bit.
However, he keeps proving us wrong whenever he’s given a chance.
Sure, he won’t be able to replace Trent offensively in big games when we need him but in these 3pm kick offs he is a godsend.
