Jurgen Klopp had high praise for his Liverpool players after beating Crystal Palace 3-0. The Reds played out a far tougher game than it seems.
Liverpool beat Crystal Palace 3-0 on Saturday afternoon. The result makes it sound as though this was routine, however – it certainly wasn’t.
Palace could have taken the lead inside three minutes, only for Alisson Becker to tip the ball onto the post. The Eagles continued to threaten throughout, though and repeatedly forced the Brazilian into some wonderful saves.
No wonder fans were raving about him after the game, then.
Liverpool had to fight for this one. Especially after two intense games inside a week – both Leeds United and AC Milan made the Reds work for their wins.
This was no different and that led to Jurgen Klopp labelling this ‘one of the most hard-fought 3-0 ever’.
Klopp on Liverpool 3-0 Palace
“I told the boys already – one of the most hard-fought 3-0s ever,” Klopp told Sky Sports. “We had to give absolutely everything. Really hard challenges – fair challenges but hard.
“The physicality in the game was immense. We had to be really ready in each situation.
“[Playing games on] Sunday, Wednesday, Saturday is really hard but we came through.

“If it had been 1-0, I’d have said ‘these are the games you have to win’.”
This certainly was a 1-0 game dressed up with an emphatic scoreline. Liverpool pushed hard to win but Palace will feel very unfortunate not to get at least a point.
But Sadio Mane’s goal showed the advantages of squad depth. The no.10 didn’t start against AC Milan in midweek and looked sharper than most here. He read Mohamed Salah’s header and found space for the rebound.
That ended up being decisive but Liverpool still had to defend well and rely on Alisson to keep them secure. All in all, a win to be proud of.
