Over the summer Liverpool spent most of the time getting rid of fringe players and renewing contract. Only the one signing was made with fans left underwhelmed and worried. One of our former stars is getting on well. Xherdan Shaqiri bagged an impressive assist on his Lyon debut.
Shaqiri at Liverpool
The Reds have a habit of picking up star players from relegated sides.
In 2018 Liverpool paid £13m to land Xherdan Shaqiri from Stoke upon their return to the Championship.
The Swiss international came with a big reputation. He had always threatened greatness without ever being a consistent start for a top side.
During his time with the Reds he won it all and he provided us with some iconic moments.
He will be forever remembered for his assist against Barcelona and his breathtaking ball for Mo Salah against West Ham.
Eventually this summer it was decided he needed to leave to play regular football, Lyon snapped him up for around £9.5m.
Xherdan Shaqiri Lyon debut
This weekend saw the Swiss international make his mark.
Xherdan Shaqiri enjoyed an impressive debut for Lyon.
The diminutive playmaker swung in a delicious cross for Jason Denayer in the second half, the centre back heading into the top corner for his side’s second goal.
The ex-Red also boasted five accurate long balls and four key passes in the game.
What RTK has to say
It’s boss to see Little Big Jed Shaqiri back to his best.
He always had the talent it’s just hard to oust anyone from this Liverpool starting XI.
The Swiss international is going to shine in Ligue 1 and we can’t wait to watch him do so.
