Bobby Clark made his debut for Liverpool Under 18s on Saturday. The 16-year-old marked the occasion with a goal.
Liverpool Under 18s drew 3-3 with Nottingham Forest earlier today. It was their third game of the season so far and one that keeps up their unbeaten start.
Though, it was also their first dropped points. They also relied on a late equaliser from Oakley Cannonier to come away with anything. The 17-year-old continues to shine and is building a very nice reputation already.
But that wasn’t the only headline from the game. This also featured the debut of Bobby Clark, fresh off his arrival from Newcastle United.
The Reds reportedly faced stern competition for the 16-year-old. Newcastle hoped to keep him, while Manchester United, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Bayern Munich all had eyes on Clark, per the Daily Mail.
Liverpool won the race, though, and got to see what Clark was all about on Saturday. They’ll love the fact that he bagged a goal on his Under 18 debut, then. You can’t ask for a much better start.
Bobby Clark scores on Under 18s debut
Clark is still so young that we’re not sure about Liverpool’s short-term plan there. We imagine it’s to leave him in the Under 18s for the season but given they fought to sign him, perhaps they believe he could be fast-tracked.
Kaide Gordon – another highly-rated 16-year-old signing – spent six months with the Under 18s before stepping up to Under 23 level. Now, Gordon is perhaps a level above most kids his age but we could see a similar path for Clark.
Standing out won’t be easy, though. Liverpool have a lot of exciting young talents coming through their academy, with the likes of Gordon and Mateusz Musialowski progressing up an age group this season.
Hopefully, this is a sign that Clark will quickly follow those footsteps.
