Jurgen Klopp gave a quick update on Harvey Elliott ahead of Liverpool’s fixture with Leeds United this weekend. Elliott picked up a problem with England Under 21s.
Harvey Elliott should be able to face Leeds United on Sunday. That’s according to Jurgen Klopp, who gave a very quick update on the teenager ahead of the game.
There was doubt over Elliott, of course. He left England U21s early because of an injury, putting his availability at Elland Road in doubt. It seems he’s okay to feature, however.
“Harvey is fine again,” said Klopp, per Liverpoolfc.com.
Short and sweet.
Harvey Elliott to face Leeds United
This is certainly good news as Elliott has been a surprise success story to kick off the season. No one predicted this kind of impact so soon.
Elliott only had one full senior season before this one, after all, and it came in the Championship for Blackburn Rovers. As impressive as he was, it’s a big step up to Liverpool.
And yet, Klopp brought Elliott off the bench in Liverpool’s opener and then started him against both Burnley and Chelsea. That’s quite incredible, given Elliott is still only 18.
In fact, Elliott wasn’t just ‘there’ against Chelsea – he played very well against the European champions. He always wanted the ball, looked to get forward, and knew his role well.
Everyone is impressed by Elliott already and there’s a very good chance he features against Leeds, perhaps with another start. At the very least, we’ll see him make a Champions League debut against AC Milan next week.
The teenager is way ahead of schedule with Liverpool and on the verge of cementing a true role in the squad. We look forward to seeing him continue down that path over the next week.
