FIFA ruling throws Liverpool visit to Leeds United into disarray

Liverpool fans must be sick of the bad news. For over a year now the Reds’ first team have been dropping like flies. This time it’s an admin problem which has left Jürgen Klopp short staffed. FIFA has informed Liverpool that three of their key stars are not allowed to face Leeds United.

Liverpool visit Leeds United

This weekend sees an age old classic fixture played out.

Liverpool will visit Leeds United with a full house of fans watching this league fixture at Elland Road for the first time since the 2003/04 campaign.

United are without a win this season. The Yorkshire side were thrashed 5-1 at Old Trafford on the opening day.

Then Marcelo Bielsa’s men drew 2-2 with Everton and 1-1 with Burnley.

Meanwhile the Reds are undefeated, easing past Burnley and Norwich before a disappointing draw with Chelsea.

FIFA ban Liverpool players v Leeds United

What a mess.

Ahead of the current international break the Reds refused to release their Brazilian players because of quarantine rules.

The stars would have visited a red list country, meaning they’d miss key games due to isolation upon their return.

As a result Brazil has asked FIFA to enforce the five-day rule and the governing body has obliges.

Consequently Liverpool will face Leeds United without Alisson, Roberto Firmino and Fabinho.

Bobby was already set to miss the tie due to injury whilst the hosts will be without Raphinha as he has also been subject to the FIFA ban.

What RTK has to say

What utter nonsense.

That is the only word for it: nonsense.

Hopefully we choose to ignore the ban and FIFA will be forced to backtrack. Current health advice states not to visit red list countries. How can FIFA argue against that?
