Diogo Jota scored yet again as Portugal beat Azerbaijan on Tuesday. The Liverpool forward is starting the season on fire.
Portugal picked up a comfortable 3-0 win over Azerbaijan last night. That’s hardly a shock but they did show themselves to be a very solid team even with Cristiano Ronaldo.
One reason for that is Diogo Jota, of course, who ended up scoring their third. The Liverpool star found himself some space in the middle of the box to head home a cross.
Jota also got an assist for the second goal. He got on the end of a wonderful pass from Bruno Fernandes to cut it back for Andre Silva. It’s possible he was having a go himself, to be fair, but we’ll give him the benefit for the doubt.
It was another productive outing for Jota, then. Liverpool fans, understandably, took to Twitter to celebrate the 24-year-old.

My Revenge On Ben Foster
That’s now three goals and an assist to start Jota’s season, bringing an end to a three-game stretch without either. It’s a very promising way to kick things off.
But the pressure will kick up a level. Roberto Firmino is injured and could miss a few weeks, meaning Jota is almost guaranteed to start games. Big games, too – the Reds travel to Leeds United this weekend and then begin their Champions League campaign.
It’s certainly good news that Jota is firing, then. We’ve already been impressed with his outings and this is a sign that he isn’t stopping anytime soon.
