Liverpool fans were crying out for a midfielder to be signed this summer. The Reds were down a key man in the middle after the departure of Gini Wijnaldum. Two wonderkids have been touted as potential signings. Liverpool need to choose between Pedri and Jude Bellingham.
This summer fans and pundits were pointing out the need for Liverpool to sign a midfielder.
The main theme of the Reds’ season last time out was injuries.
This was in part due to the decision to not replace an outgoing senior member of the side.
Over the summer another senior member of the squad left and he wasn’t replaced.
Gini Wijnaldum racked up more minutes than anybody else during the Jürgen Klopp era.
That kind of reliability can’t be taken for granted.
Liverpool linked with Pedri and Bellingham
Throughout the summer a number of players were suggested by the papers.
This week alone we’ve seen two wonderkids touted as potential Gini successors.
The Daily Star has claimed Liverpool want to sign Jude Bellingham for £80m.
Meanwhile, the dubious OKDiario has reported that Jürgen Klopp has asked for Pedri to be brought to Anfield.
Decade defining signing
If the Reds are indeed interested in both midfielders then Michael Edwards has a decade defining decision to make.
Both players are lighting up football at just 18-years-old, they have years left in the tank.
Both players boast a wealth of first team experience with the amount of games Pedri has played in the past year becoming a meme on Twitter.
Stylistically there are differences between the players with the Spaniard very obviously a La Masia graduate.
Meanwhile Jude Bellingham has an all action style similar to that of Steven Gerrard in his prime.
The question is which profile would Jürgen Klopp benefit more from?
