Liverpool fans were left underwhelmed by the Reds’ summer transfer business. Plenty of Kopites had been hoping for a marquee signing to help us keep up with our rivals, no such signing was made. There’s still hope for a deal for player in particular in January. However, PSG are reportedly hopeful of tying Kylian Mbappe down to a new contract.
Liverpool need a forward
At the start of next season Liverpool’s famous attacking trio will all be 30-years-old.
We have our famous trident and Diogo Jota filling four spots in the final third.
Given how many games the Reds play each year that is simply not enough depth.
Jürgen Klopp needs another forward for a number of reasons.
The boss needs more competition in the front line. He needs rotation options. He needs cover for injuries.
At the moment just a couple of absences can leave us in the lurch. We need to solve that problem with the addition of a young, clinical forward.
PSG hopeful of new Mbappe contract
One of the sagas of the summer concerned the crown prince of French football.
Real Madrid made no secret of their pursuit of Kylian Mbappe.
The final week or so of the window the world anxiously awaited updates on whether the Spanish side’s bid had been rejected or accepted.
In the end, despite the player’s deal expiring in the summer of 2022, the forward remained in Paris.
According to The Athletic, PSG are hopeful of Kylian Mbappe signing a new contract.
Despite the star rejecting initial proposals the state-backed club are believed to be working hard to persuade him to stay.
What RTK has to say
This would be a big blow to slim Liverpool hopes of signing Mbappe on a free.
The French star can negotiate from January and although Madrid is his most likely destination plenty of Kopites believe Liverpool are still in the running.
He’s flirted with the Reds in the media in the past and is a well documented admirer of Jürgen Klopp and his brand of football.
We can hold on to that small hope until he signs a new contract, wherever that may be.
