Why Liverpool need a midfielder

On paper Liverpool appear well stocked in the middle of the park.

The issue is that we can’t rely on the fitness of a majority of our midfield options.

The most reliably fit midfielder we had left the club over the summer.

Gini Wijnaldum signed for PSG on a free transfer, ending a five-year stay at Anfield.

During his time with the Reds Gini Wijnaldum played more minutes than anybody under Jürgen Klopp.

That kind of reliability and consistency needs replacing, you can’t just paper over the cracks and hope for the best.

Liverpool want Carlos Soler

During the summer Jürgen Klopp’s side was linked with all and sundry.

Midfielders were being touted as potential signings with a new name mentioned every day.

The close of the window has seemingly done nothing to slow down the rumour mill.

According to the dubious Fichajes in Spain, Liverpool want Carlos Soler from Valencia.

The Reds are said to be one of the main interested parties in the 24-year-old Spaniard described as ‘the complete midfielder’ by former coach Curro Torres.

The versatile midfielder’s contract expires in 2023, meaning the Reds could allegedly strike a bargain deal next summer if he doesn’t sign an extension.

Reaction from RTK

Liverpool wanting Soler certainly makes sense on paper, however, we don’t trust reports from Fichajes. The outlet seems to have a throw everything at the wall and see what sticks approach.

At just 24-years-old he boasts a wealth of first team experience having established himself in the side as a teenager.

He also boasts the kind of versatility the boss likes; he most often plays in the middle but he can also be deployed on either wing.

We wouldn’t be surprised if Liverpool moved for Soler as he certainly fits the profile in terms of age, versatility and potentially being available cheap due to his contract situation.
