Fenerbahce want Divock Origi, according to reports. It’s a transfer that makes absolutely no sense for Liverpool.
Fotospor claims that Fenerbahce are making a late push for Divock Origi. The Turkish transfer window remains open until the 8th, after all, and they hope to add the Belgian.
In fact, they hope to add him today. While the transfer window may have time to run, Europa League registration does not. Fenerbahce need to add Origi ASAP in order to use him in that competition.
They have a plane waiting, things are progressing and it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever for Liverpool.
Origi to Fenerbahce?
We would be beyond shocked if Liverpool completed this deal. Yes, the Turkish window is open but the English one isn’t – the Reds couldn’t replace him.
And no matter what you think of Origi and his contribution over the last two seasons, he still has a place at Liverpool. For one, he’s the only out-and-out striker on the books.
Liverpool would lose a genuine option from their bench. Someone Jurgen Klopp can throw on and actually change the playing style. Origi is able to lead the line in a traditional sense, while he’s also the only real physical presence up top.
Origi’s failures in recent seasons aren’t even really his fault, either. His minutes per goal ratio is actually very good – surprisingly so. Klopp just doesn’t throw him on very often as Liverpool aren’t quite as effective.
But he’s still a way to change games, he still contributes with a few goals when given the chance.
Now, we’d replace Origi if it were up to us. The Athletic claims Liverpool tried to this summer, too, and would have sold for £12m. That sounds good.
But if the choice is Origi or literally nothing, we’ll take Origi. And that’s what this option is.
A week ago, selling made complete sense. Right now? Absolutely none.
