Liverpool fans have had pretty much nothing to shout about this summer. Sure, we’ve solved the issues in defence and tied down some key players but our rivals went all out in the transfer market. However, one of the window’s biggest players has found himself at the centre of some controversy. Didi Hamann seems to think a referee was biased towards Cristiano Ronaldo this week.
Manchester United re-sign Cristiano Ronaldo
What an awful piece of business this will prove to be.
I may be forced to eat my words on this one but this just seems like a nostalgia move.
Sure, Ronaldo is still an incredible footballer but the economics of this deal just seem utter nonsense.
At 36-years-old they are paying him a reported £480k-a-week. He turns 37 in February.
Meanwhile they’ve sold the promising youngster Dan James to make way for the Portuguese icon.
Sorry, not for me.
Didi Hamann on referee and Cristiano Ronaldo
This week Portugal took on the Republic of Ireland.
Against the run of play the Irish went one up and held on for a majority of the game.
They could’ve had two goals with a penalty appeal questionably turned down by referee Matej Jug.
Man United’s shiny new signing popped up with two late headers to rescue a win for Portugal.
However, the officiating of the game has been called into question with one reporter questioning the referee’s professionalism around the game winning striker.
Didi Hamann joined in with doubting the how the referee handled the game and Cristiano Ronaldo.
What RTK has to say
We have to agree with Didi on this one.
The ref seemed a tad starstruck officiating Cristiano Ronaldo.
Furthermore the issues with added time were odd, as was the decision not to award the Irish a penalty.
Hopefully we can just chalk this up to a bad game for the man with the whistle.
