Liverpool fans woke up to some downright terrifying news this bank holiday Monday. A report surfaced claiming that we could be set to lose one of the most important people at the club. Kopites are worried. Thankfully, Liverpool are reportedly still negotiating a new contract with Michael Edwards.
There are few directors in the world with a reputation like Michael Edwards.
The Reds’ sporting director has become renowned for his savvy operating in the transfer market.
Edwards joined the club in 2011 from Spurs and in 2016 was appointed to the top job in recruitment.
Since his appointment we’ve seen success stories such as the purchase of Andy Robertson, the sale of Philippe Coutinho and the signing of Virgil van Dijk.
The director’s successes are too many to list, he has been integral to the club’s transformation in recent seasons.
Michael Edwards future with Liverpool
This week has seen some sensational news coming out of Anfield.
The Athletic has reported that Michael Edwards is likely to leave Liverpool at the end of the season.
The sporting director’s contract with the Reds is up next summer and he’s allegedly informed the club of his intention to leave.
However, the Liverpool ECHO has claimed that the Reds are still negotiating a new deal with the director in the hope that they can get him to extend his successful stay.
What RTK has to say
Liverpool losing Eddy would be an absolute travesty.
Hopefully this is a repeat of what we saw with Jordan Henderson recently.
We all get in a panic and then after a couple of weeks we hear that there’s been a breakthrough in talks.
We can only hope because this is one scary story.
