The latest news suggests a Kylian Mbappe transfer is far from done. Liverpool may be in this race, after all.
This comes from Le Parisien. They claim Real Madrid have set Paris Saint-Germain a Sunday deadline over Kylian Mbappe.
There’s currently a £163m offer on the table, including bonuses. PSG are yet to give an answer, however, and Real want them to hurry up ahead of the transfer deadline this week.
Real made headlines this week with other bids for Mbappe that were seemingly rejected by PSG. They hope to secure the player before his contract expires next year.
Offering £163m for a player with under a year left on his deal is quite insane but there’s presumably some logic here. If Real don’t complete this deal, there’s every chance that Mbappe agrees on a new contract with PSG over the next few months.
Los Blancos will also want to avoid the open market next summer when clubs might feel more confident about their finances. Right now, they’re seemingly the only ones with this kind of pulling power.
Transfer news: Mbappe
An English team has reportedly tried to sign Mbappe in recent days. Internally, Real Madrid think that’s Liverpool.
That suggests that the Reds are one of the club Real are trying to steal a march on, then. If they don’t sign Mbappe right now, they’ll compete with Liverpool in a year.
And the Reds might fancy their chances. They’re apparently signing no one this summer other than Ibrahima Konate, after all. Their plans do appear to suggest a bid spend in 2022.
But we admit that it still feels fanciful. Liverpool have never pulled off a signing like that and Mbappe is as big as it gets right now.
If PSG don’t accept by Real’s deadline, though, it might start to feel a little more realistic. This one isn’t over – yet.
