Liverpool have been hoovering up the top young talents in the game in recent seasons. We signed a couple of wonderkids after winning the European Cup and since then we’ve added the likes of Mateusz Musialowski and Kaide Gordon. One of our youth additions is now impressing in the first team. Lee Dixon has said Harvey Elliott reminds him of Lionel Messi.
Liverpool 1-1 Chelsea
This weekend we saw a frustrating draw played out at Anfield.
The Reds welcomed Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea to Merseyside for one of the most vitriolic fixtures in English football.
It was the visitors who opened the scoring when Kai Havertz’s header to the back post looped over Alisson Becker.
The hosts piled on the pressure until Reece James was sent off just before halftime. The Chelsea defender conceded a penalty when he armed the ball off the line.
Mo Salah finished with aplomb from the spot and that was the final goal of the game with Tuchel predictably and understandably shutting up shop.
Lee Dixon on Harvey Elliott
The game saw another Premier League start for Harvey Elliott.
The Liverpool starboy didn’t look out of place at all on the big occasion.
He was so impressive that Lee Dixon compared him to Lionel Messi. The Arsenal icon told NBC Sport:
“He’s probably been Liverpool’s best player. Knowing where the space is, little walks into that space.
“Listen, I’m going to say something now. He reminds me a little bit like Messi. He walks like him. He’s diminutive and just waits for the ball to come to him. He’s a real talent at 18 – that’s for sure!”
What RTK has to say
He said it, not us. But we’re saying it.
At just 18-years-old Elliott has the world at his feet.
His confidence, his ability, his potential. He is just such an incredibly exciting prospect.
We can’t wait to see how far he can go this season, he’s keeping Thiago Alcantara out of the side for crying out loud.
