Here are our player ratings as Liverpool drew 1-1 with Chelsea at Anfield. It was a frustrating day for the Reds who should have won the game.
Liverpool 1-1 Chelsea: Player ratings
Alisson – 7
No chance with the goal but was an excellent sweeper. Strangely slow with some of his distribution, though.
Trent Alexander-Arnold – 7
An outstanding cross in the first half should have brought a goal. Didn’t offer too much beyond that but no struggles, either.
Joel Matip – 6
Matip had some great moments and some terrible moments. Shouldn’t be long before he’s back to his absolute best.
Virgil van Dijk – 8
Calm as you like. Not sure he was worried once, despite his battle being played up as decisive.
Andy Robertson – 8
Dominated the left flank. Desperately unlucky not to end up with a couple of assists. All the more impressive when you consider he missed the first two games.
Fabinho – 7
A few silly fouls but Fabinho was as solid as you’d expect here. A difficult game while up against some mobile creative midfielders but he controlled things.
Harvey Elliott – 7
A 7 compared to everyone else but really a 9 for an 18-year-old playing the biggest game of his career. Elliott doesn’t look out of place at all, even if not everything went his way today.
Jordan Henderson – 6
The pressing was superb but little went right for Henderson with the ball. On another day he puts Liverpool into the lead. It just wasn’t that day.
Mohamed Salah – 7
We’re bumping him up a mark for scoring from the spot. Really, though, Salah struggled with extra attention from Chelsea as they kept him away from goal.
Roberto Firmino – 6
Hard to give the Brazilian more than that as he went off before half-time. He had a good game, though.
Sadio Mane – 5
Strong on the ball, some great runs but we’re not sure his final ball landed once. Mane wasn’t at his best.
Diogo Jota – 5
Jota’s pressing work was fantastic but he did little going forward. A clear difference in Liverpool’s link-play once he came on for Firmino.
Thiago – 6
Thiago came into a strange game. He played well enough but couldn’t affect too much.
Kostas Tsimikas – N/A
Not really enough time for the Greek to do much in this one.
