Liverpool may have a late chance to add Alexander Isak to their transfers this summer. This comes after Real Sociedad sealed a new signing themselves.
Real Sociedad confirmed on Wednesday that Alexander Sorloth has joined from RB Leipzig. He’s on an initial loan deal with an obligation to buy.
It’s a decent signing for the Basque side. Sorloth struggled in the Bundesliga but his record for Trabzonspor before that was exceptional.
The question now is how this affects Alexander Isak. The Swede is the main man at Sociedad and is a relatively similar profile to Sortloth.
Is the 21-year-old suddenly more available than he was?
Liverpool transfers: Alexander Isak
Noticias de Gipuzkoa linked Liverpool with Isak back in the summer. He was busy shining at Euro 2020 with Sweden and naturally drawing interest.
Although, that interest was almost certainly already there. After all, he’s still only 21 yet Isak bagged 17 La Liga goals last season.
Euro 2020 merely brought more eyes. Not that it increased Sociedad’s desire to sell.
Fabrizio Romano claimed they want to hold off until 2022 before selling. They value Isak at over €50m, too – this wouldn’t be a bargain deal.
But it might be a bargain long-term. We’ve talked about Isak incessantly over the summer as he feels like an ideal Liverpool signing.
In fact, he might be the ideal answer to blockbuster transfers elsewhere – if Liverpool can bring out his remarkable potential in full.
And so we wonder if Isak might be attainable over the next week. Or at least, far more attainable than he was.
Sociedad have an obvious short-term replacement in Sorloth. That makes accepting a £40m or £50m bid a whole lot easier. Liverpool could offer them a big fee without any real risk to it.
We think it would be worth it for the Reds. The real question is whether Sociedad feel it would be worth it for them. That part is debatable, to be fair.
But it’s well worth asking. With one week to go, Sociedad might just be willing to listen.
