3 players to fear as Liverpool's Champions League group confirmed

We learned Liverpool’s Champions League group on Thursday – and it’s a tough one. Here are three players to watch out for.

Atletico Madrid – Luis Suarez

The top seeds in Liverpool’s Champions League group are the Spanish champions. They also happen to have been the Reds’ opponents the last time Anfield was packed for a Champions League game.

Since then they’ve added a certain someone, however – Luis Suarez. Liverpool’s former no.7 moved there from Barcelona a year ago to incredible results.

Suarez scored 21 goals as Atletico won La Liga. Is he the superstar he once was? No, but the Uruguayan is undoubtedly a threat.

And one who happens to have a unique relationship with Liverpool.

FC Porto – Otavio

We’ve gone for Otavio for this one as arguably the standout player for Porto. The Brazilian has really come into his own over recent years.

He’s a wonderfully versatile player who creates plenty of chances, beats players on the dribble and wins tackles. In fact, he’s so good that Liverpool reportedly considered signing him this summer.

Otavio is a very interesting player and one who Liverpool’s midfield needs to watch out for. Last year’s Champions League quater-finalists may not entirely run through him, but the 26-year-old is a real threat.

AC Milan – Zlatan Ibrahimovic

A bit of a tough one, this. Milan were undoubtedly the strongest side in Pot 4 but they lack an obvious star. They’re more a squad full of decent players than some elite ones.

Though, Zlatan Ibrahimovic is obviously a star. He’d be the pick here without any doubt if it weren’t for an injury that required surgery this summer.

He’s still not back for Milan, either, but should return post-international break. If he does, the Swede is the one for Liverpool to watch out for.

Yes, he turns 40 in October but Ibrahimovic is still lighting up Serie A. He scored 15 goals in 19 games last season – when he’s fit, he’s a huge threat.
