Now or never for Liverpool after reports of rival's Kylian Mbappe bid

Real Madrid’s reported Kylian Mbappe bid means it’s now or never for Liverpool. The Reds may only get one shot at this.

Fabrizio Romano says Real Madrid have put in a £135m bid for Kylian Mbappe. He’s not the only one, either.

Sky Sports say the same but really, you can read it everywhere. This was the big breaking news last night and it’s a potential game-changer for many.

It’s obvious how it affects Real – they get a new superstar to build around. One who should only become more and more valuable.

It affects every team in La Liga, too, as Mbappe would arguably become the league’s best player. No one else could really match that kind of talisman.

Paris Saint-Germain would lose their future star – the one who should take over from Neymar and Lionel Messi. On the other hand, they’d get a monstrous fee for someone whose contract expires in one year.

Now, they might reject this bid. They might have by the time you read this, actually. But Real will try again – that is their plan in this window.

One other club it could affect? Liverpool. It’s now or never for the Reds.

Will Liverpool bid for Kylian Mbappe?

The Mirror claims Liverpool see themselves as a potential destination. In fact, that’s something reported for quite some time now.

In fact, the Reds aren’t even alone in that. Real Madrid reportedly believe internally that Liverpool are their rivals here.

The club does appear to be saving its cash for something, too. We think it might be with a view to signing a superstar next summer.

But if Mbappe is that superstar, it’s now or never. There’s no second go at this if Real are serious with their bid – if Mbappe goes to Madrid, he’s not leaving for a very long time.

And when he does leave, it won’t be for a price that Liverpool can pay.

Right now, there’s an element of fortune to it all. Mbappe is at a club that has let his contract run down. That lowers his price as the free transfer looms next summer.

Mbappe won’t be this cheap and affordable until his prime is over. He won’t even be on the market again beyond this summer, in fact.

So if Liverpool see Mbappe as their end goal, they’ve simply got to bid in the next week. Otherwise, they can say goodbye to this plan forever.

Because as outlandish as it seems right now, it’s going to seem even more so if Real get their hands on him.
