Liverpool shouldn’t give up on Noni Madueke, despite Wednesday’s news. The Reds reportedly like the winger.
The Daily Mail reported this week that Liverpool like Noni Madueke. Madueke is a 19-year-old winger playing for PSV Eindhoven and appears to be a huge talent.
He finished last season with eight goals and six assists across the Europa League and Eredivisie. And that’s despite only starting 10 games in those competitions.
Madueke has started this season on fire, too, scoring six times in eight games already. All in all, he’s a fantastic talent.
No wonder, then, that Liverpool hold interest. They’re not the only ones, either, as several top clubs are looking at Madueke.
Things did take a turn on Wednesday, however. The teenager agreed a new deal with PSV, tying him to the side until 2025.
It’s something of a surprise move, given the level of interest around him. But it’s not one that should rule out a Liverpool move.
Noni Madueke – one for Liverpool to watch
For starters, top players don’t tend to stick around in the Eredivisie for very long. That’s been the case dating back to the 70s.
So this contract certainly doesn’t mean that Madueke is untouchable until 2025. Far from it, in fact, as PSV would almost certainly accept a large fee.
Though, the Mail’s article had their price-tag at £34m before the new contract. It’ll be higher now.
Regardless of that, Madueke is too ideal for Liverpool to ignore. He’s a pacey, technical winger who can score goals – i.e. exactly what the Reds want on their flanks.
Add in his age – 19 – and it’s clear there’s enormous untapped potential still. Liverpool will fancy that.
And on top of it all, Madueke is English, having initially developed at Tottenham Hotspur before moving to PSV a few years ago. That makes him a homegrown player – something Liverpool need.
This one is far from over, then. Madueke won’t be an easy transfer but he’s one to watch this season. If he continues his ridiculous form, we’d actually be quite shocked if Liverpool didn’t bid.
He ticks their boxes and will always be available. What’s not to love? The new contract is no reason to give up entirely.
