Real Madrid believe Liverpool are after Kylian Mbappe in this transfer window, according to reports. Los Blancos supposedly bid for the Frenchman on Tuesday.
This comes from Alvaro Montero, talking to Sky Sports. He claims that Real Madrid believe Liverpool are rivalling them for a Kylian Mbappe transfer.
“As far as I know, inside Real Madrid, they believe this club is Liverpool,” said Montero. “I don’t know about that – I have no information – but they believe it’s Liverpool.”
The journalist goes on to say that Real believe they have the upper hand in this race, however. They don’t see it being a matter of finances – this is about sentimentality.
Mbappe wants to join Real, they believe, and has been a fan since he was a child. That alone should be enough to see off Liverpool.
Not that they don’t have a financial plan, here. Sky Sports report that Real bid £137m to Paris Saint-Germain for Mbappe on Tuesday evening.
PSG are yet to respond to the proposal, though. It will certainly be a tempting one.
Mbappe’s contract expires in one year, meaning he could leave the club for nothing. In fact, he can officially talk to clubs as soon as January 1st.
PSG are unlikely to want to lose arguably the game’s most valuable asset for absolutely nothing. This Real bid, then, is going to force a decision.
Do they give up and cash in? Or should PSG risk negotiating a new contract and potentially fail?
Real Madrid want Mbappe transfer
We’re not totally sold on Liverpool being the mystery club here. It would certainly be a shift in policy from the rest of this transfer window.
But then, if you’re going to shift for anyone, it would be Mbappe. He’s about as good as it gets right now – a world-class player who will only get more valuable.
So we’re not going to hold our breath but we’ll admit, there’s some excitement here. The next week promises to be a very interesting one.
