Kostas Tsimikas has become a new fans favourite after his latest performance for Liverpool.
The Greek shone in the Reds’ 2-0 win over Burnley yesterday.
Jurgen Klopp’s side maintained a winning start to the new Premier League season, with another clean sheet to add to the bargain.
Liverpool took the lead through a Diogo Jota header after a perfect Tsimikas cross in the 18th minute.
Mo Salah had the ball in the net again less than 10 minutes later, but VAR ruled it out for offside.
Burnley caused quite a few problems in the first half. As expected, they were incredibly physical and got some joy from their game plan.
However, Liverpool maintained their 1-0 lead heading into the break.
They started the second half much better and dominated the ball. There were quite a few instances of lovely play from the side and they eventually doubled their lead through Sadio Mane in the 69th minute after some brilliant play.
Again, Burnley had a few chances, but Liverpool held out and won the game in what was a very decent performance.
Tsimikas one of the outstanding players for Liverpool
While there were a few very good performances from those in red shirts, Tsimikas, in particular, caught the eye.
Andy Robertson shocked us all by recovering from an ankle ligament injury in record time to take a spot on the bench. Reports emerged before the game that the Scot will be fit enough to face Chelsea next week.
So, there was pressure on Tsimikas to perform in order to give Klopp a selection headache.
And he did just that.
His assist for the opener was an inch-perfect cross. You would be forgiven for thinking that it was Robertson himself.
He created five chances in total and made four key passes. The left-back also made three tackles and one interception, so it was not all going forward where Tsimikas shone.
There were numerous little pieces of skill and nice play that drew applause from the Anfield crowd.
None more so than late in the game, when Tsimikas was fouled by two Burnley players on the halfway line but still managed to hold onto the ball and get back up again. It earned him a standing ovation and a passionate roar from the fans.
It was even more impressive when you consider the fact that Joe Gomez was waiting to replace him at the time due to a shoulder injury the 25-year-old had picked up a few minutes earlier.
The moment showed a steely side to Tsimikas that the Liverpool faithful seem to have fallen in love with.
